How I Spent 2020 as Financial Advisor?

by Madhupam Krishna

experience of financial advisor, financial advisor

Can you enjoy a relationship without committing to one? OK, pretty emotional start… right? So let me rephrase – Can you enjoy the weather sitting on a closed balcony or enjoy a cold shower without getting wet?

You may wonder why I am asking this? Most of the investors want 2 definite things – One good returns- Two, not hold equity investments. They behave as if equity is a bitter pill. Just swallow it & forget.

With equity, everyone wants to get out but still want to enjoy 50000 Sensex Mark! This is called paradox!

The below conversation is what I found on social media… and just gave it my touch. See how I spent my 2020 with my clients! Although investors were lot but to ease and be more effective I have taken it as one INVESTOR.

And, ME stands for me, my team & our communication.

My aim id to acknowledge that many investors were previously informed and expected the years event. Many of them listened & understood what we said… and many made us run & few acted the way they shouldn’t. This post aims to make that number to zero in the future.

It all started in…

JANUARY –    Nifty Level 12000  ⬇️

Investor : Market is all-time high. Can we sell our portfolio? 🤔

ME : No. You told me that this money was for your retirement and wanted withdrawal in 2030. Why do you want to change your mind by watching every day’s nifty level?

We are a long term investor.

FEBRUARY –      Nifty 11000   ⬇️

Investor : The market is down. Can we sell our portfolio? 😨

ME : No. You told me that this money was for your retirement and wanted withdrawal in 2030. Why do you want to change your mind by watching every day’s nifty level?

ME : No. You told me that this money was for your retirement and wanted withdrawal in 2030. Why do you want to change your mind by watching every day’s nifty level?

MARCH  (Again) –        9000   ⬇️

Investor : Market is already down and going to crash. Can we sell our portfolio? 😰

ME : No. You told me that this money was for your retirement and wanted withdrawal in 2030. Why do you want to change your goal by watching every day’s nifty level?

MARCH (again) –        8000   ⬇️

Investor : Market is already crashed. Can we sell our portfolio? 😨

ME : No. You told me that this money was for your retirement and wanted withdrawal in 2030. Why do you want to change your goal by watching every day’s nifty level?

MARCH (again) –        7511 Bottom

Investor : I told you. You did not listen me. Market is already crashed. We lost so much money. You were wrong. I want to sell today only. It will reach to 6000. 😭😡

ME : No. You told me that this money was for your retirement and wanted withdrawal in 2030. Why do you want to change your goal by watching everyday’s nifty level?

MARCH –        8000    ⬆️

Investor : Can we sell our portfolio now? 😡

ME : No. You told me that this money was for your retirement and wanted withdrawal in 2030. Why do you want to change your goal by watching every day’s nifty level?

APRIL 2020

Investor: See I told you. Why should you be my advisor if I have to see the bottom? I am alone better to lose money. Can we now at least sell?

ME : No, my worth you will realize when you will retire or some important goal is met. As of today you should invest. Yours is a portfolio for 20-25 years.

MAY 2020

Investor: See I told you, the pandemic is going to last 2-3 years. Stopp all SIPs. And. SELLL….

ME : This is the best time to invest. If you have surplus invest more. Increase SIPs.

JUNE –           10000    ⬆️

Investor : Reached 10k. I think we should sell our portfolio? 🙁

AUG -SEPT

Investor: See the run in US. Someone invested 4-5 months ago has almost doubled. We should make double money or SELL.

ME : If you would have invested in march end & April you would also have made good money on that investments. But you panicked. Stay the course.

OCTOBER –    12000    ⬆️

Investor : Market is again reached to all time high. Can we sell our portfolio? 🙂

January 2021

Investor : US is going for a home war. Iran will attack. China will attack. Budget in Feb…

ME:  Please control your emotions. EXPECT & ACCEPT VOLATILITY.

Invest. Diversify. Make an all-weather Portfolio… Have a long term horizon if you are investing in Equity.
